Solar thermal collector

Solar thermal collectors, which are oriented towards the sun, absorb solar energy and can transform it into thermal energy. This makes the fluid circulating inside the collectors heat up.
The fluid goes to the heat exchanger tank placed in the house, and transfers its energy to a cooler water circulating in the building's plumbing system.
The circulated water is used in heating the house or the tap water.

Solar cell or panel

Solar panels mounted on the top or sides of the buildings can function as local electricity sources. When installed on a larger area, they can also form solar power plants.
Solar panels convert solar energy into electrical energy.
By means of conversion devices, they convert direct current to alternating current.
In case of independent photovoltaic systems, batteries are installed for storing the energy. However, also smaller systems, even the solar panel system of a family house, are connected to the electricity grid in an increasing number.

As Hungary has favorable conditions, here an increasing trend can be observed in direction of directly utilizing solar energy with solar thermal collectors and solar panels. As our lands are used for agriculture, the establishment of solar energy plants is less possible, however, there is an increasing local use of solar energy with panels placed on top of residential homes and institutions.

  • The sun's heat and light does not cost money.
  • Clean energy - it does not involve any carbon dioxide emission that increases greenhouse effect.
  • Power generation can be carried out even in remote, scarcely populated locations.
  • Solar energy is significantly dependent on the intensity of the sun so the continuity of the energy supply is not ensured.
  • Its usability is limited in areas with less favorable climate.
  • The production of solar cells and solar thermal collectors is expensive, and as there is a significant energy demand, the production is not environmentally friendly.

France's largest solar power plant is located in the region of Colle des Mées. It consists of 112,780 solar collector elements, occupies twice the area of Városliget, and supplies 12,000 houses with electricity

You can often see turtles or lizards basking in the spring sun. The reptiles are not able to maintain a constant temperature in their body, it changes in relation to the ambient temperature. For this reason they are also called cold-blooded animals. The heat of the sun is necessary for them to warm up their body and for the development of the bones

There are many places in the world where the electricity grid does not reach the villages and dwellings, or it would be too expensive to install. But small off-grid systems can be found in the cities as well, for example the solar panels supplying the BUBI stations.

The International Space Station, ISS set up by the five - American, Russian, Japanese, Chinese and European - space agencies also use solar energy.

Between March 2015 and July 2016, Solar Impulse 2 aircraft was the first to fly around the globe with 16 landings, without using a single drop of fuel. It flew 42 thousand kilometers. More than 17 thousand solar cells supply the 72-meter wingspan plane with power, operating four electric motors and also charging the batteries of the machine. The batteries make it possible to fly by night too.
